Detailed Itinerary: Sirimon-Chogoria Route

Day 1: Nairobi – Sirimon Gate – Old Moses Camp (3,300m)

  • Distance: 9 km | Trekking Time: 3–4 hours | Elevation Gain: +680m

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Nairobi to Nanyuki, passing the equator and enjoying views of Mount Kenya on the horizon. Upon reaching the Sirimon Gate, we’ll handle your park entry formalities while you enjoy a delicious picnic lunch.

The trek starts with a gradual ascent through the montane forest, home to colobus monkeys, antelope, and a variety of bird species. As the trail rises, the forest transitions into bamboo and giant heather zones before opening into high-altitude moorland. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at Old Moses Camp, your cozy refuge for the night. Here, you’ll enjoy a warm dinner and prepare for the next day’s challenge.

Day 2: Old Moses Camp – Shipton Camp (4,200m)

  • Distance: 14 km | Trekking Time: 6–7 hours | Elevation Gain: +900m

After a hearty breakfast, the day begins with an uphill climb, offering breathtaking views of the Ontulili and Liki North Rivers. The trail traverses moorland dotted with giant lobelias and groundsel, unique to Mount Kenya’s ecosystem.

As you enter Mackinder’s Valley, prepare to be amazed by the dramatic landscapes: rugged peaks, deep gorges, and vast glaciers. By evening, you’ll reach Shipton Camp, nestled at the base of the towering Batian and Nelion peaks. The camp’s setting feels surreal, offering panoramic views and a star-studded night sky.

Day 3: Shipton Camp – Point Lenana (4,985m) – Mt. Kenya Bandas (2,800m)

  • Distance: 29 km | Trekking Time: 11–12 hours | Elevation Gain: +785m | Descent: -2,085m

Your summit day begins at 3:00 AM. Under the starlit sky, the climb to Point Lenana, Mount Kenya’s third-highest peak, is both exhilarating and challenging. The route involves frozen scree and minor scrambling, but the reward is unparalleled: a breathtaking sunrise over Africa, with views of Mount Kilimanjaro on the horizon.

After capturing your summit photos, descend to Minto’s Hut for breakfast. The journey continues through the spectacular Gorges Valley, passing iconic landmarks like Lake Michaelson and Mushroom Rocks. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at Mount Kenya Bandas, where log fires, hot showers, and hearty meals await.

Day 4: Mt. Kenya Bandas – Chogoria Town – Nairobi

  • Distance: 10 km | Trekking Time: 3 hours

After breakfast, the final leg of your trek descends through lush bamboo and virgin rainforests. The trail is alive with exotic birdlife, monkeys, and the occasional elephant tracks.
